US Senator Rand Paul said. that the admission of Ukraine to the North Atlantic Alliance would be the wrong decision and could lead to war with Russia. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

According to him, such a scenario “no one should want.” He also took issue with a proposal by another Republican senator, Senator Lindsey Graham, who said he would work with US bipartisans on a resolution calling for Ukraine to join NATO.

Earlier, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said at a briefing at the White House that Ukraine needs to carry out “additional reforms” to join NATO. According to him, President Joe Biden insists on this. At the same time, Sullivan added that Biden would be glad to have the opportunity to meet with Zelensky at the NATO summit. According to Sullivan, the United States continues to adhere to the principles not to participate in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and not to provide Ukrainians with weapons to attack the Russian Federation. Biden himself said that accepting Ukraine into NATO is “premature.”

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine may not count on the status of a member of the North Atlantic Alliance following the NATO summit, which will be held in Vilnius on July 11-12. This was announced in the American White House. US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith said earlier that the final communiqué of NATO countries following the summit in Vilnius “will not be a reformulation” of the document following the Bucharest summit – it will reflect the United States’ assessment of “Ukraine’s desire to join the alliance.”

Not all NATO members are ready to accept Ukraine into their ranks. Former Prime Minister of Slovakia, leader of the opposition Smer party Robert Fico said that Ukraine cannot become a member of NATO while there is a military conflict on its territory. He also noted that Ukraine could be pushed to membership in the alliance by those who plan to unleash a third world war. At the same time, Turkish President Tayyip Recep Erdogan said that Ukraine has the right to join NATO.
