Russia’s first domestic production of anti-lock braking systems (ABS) was launched in Kostroma. About it reported in the regional administration.

On July 7, Governor of the Kostroma Region Sergey Sitnikov and Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Vasily Shpak opened production at the plant of the Itelma group of companies. In addition to ABS, the company will produce dynamic stabilization systems (ESP).

The production capacity is 850,00 units per year. The administration clarified that it is possible to expand the volume by adding equipment – up to 1.2 million units per year. It also provides for a phased localization of critical system components.

The consumer segment of the auto electronics market requires a significant amount of electronic components, the creation of which is one of the main priorities of the policy of technological independence, the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized.

Aleksey Vorobyov, CEO of Itelma, said that the group thought about such a project even before the “component crisis” in 2022. “Last year, the situation escalated, and it became clear that the project was simply necessary. At the same time, budgetary funds were not involved for the implementation,” he added, thanking the Ministry of Industry and Trade for “systematic work to consolidate demand.”

In June Shpak toldthat serial deliveries of domestic ABS should begin on July 1. Russia has already managed to replace imports of electronic control units, harness products, and also partially sensors for the automotive industry, he noted then.

Itelma Group operates in the electronics and development segments. The main asset is a research and production enterprise specializing in the development of electronic components. The group employs more than 3,000 people.
