Scientist Eyidogan warned about the threat of a tsunami due to a possible earthquake in Istanbul

Scientist Haluk Eyidogan, a specialist in seismology and a member of the Council of Istanbul City Council for Earthquakes, warned of the possibility of a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of over 7 in Istanbul and the Marmara region, which will lead to economic consequences for the whole of Turkey. It is reported by RIA Novosti agency.

Recently, another scientist, Nacı Görür, who is also a member of the Council of Istanbul Municipality Earthquake Scientists, issued a statement about a possible earthquake in Istanbul. It is noted that one of the branches of the North Anatolian fault passes through the Sea of Marmara near the coast of Istanbul.

The scientist explained that according to predictions, if the fault is activated in the Sea of Marmara, a very strong earthquake will occur. The probability of such an event before 2030 is about 50%, and this conclusion is based on a study of historical data on earthquakes in this region over the past 2000 years, as well as on the analysis of geophysical and seismic studies.
