German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Thursday, July 13, talked with residents of the Bavarian city of Füssen. Answering questions from the townspeople, the politician said that he would not go on a hiking trip to the Alps with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, Scholz said that he would go on such a trip with French President Emmanuel Macron and the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez. The Chancellor explained this choice by the good physical shape of the mentioned politicians.

Earlier, Scholz announced his intention to talk with Vladimir Putin in the near future, but the Kremlin noted that such conversations are not in the Russian leader’s work schedule.

At the same time, Kremlin speaker Dmitry Peskov expressed the opinion that “maybe it would even be good if such communication took place in order to learn at least our position from the original source.” This would help Western politicians “throw off the blinkers that do not allow them to soberly assess the situation”, said the press secretary of the head of state.
