Rublev beat Purcell and reached the second round of Wimbledon – Kommersant


Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev won the first round match of Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season. He beat Australian Max Purcell 6:3, 7:5, 6:4. The match lasted 1.5 hours.

In the next round, Rublev will compete with the winner of the match between Russia’s Aslan Karatsev and France’s Luca van Asche.

Wimbledon is an international tennis tournament, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments. In 2023, it will be held from 3 to 16 July. This year’s tournament will feature a record prize pool of £44.7m.

25-year-old Andrei Rublev is ranked seventh in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He won 13 tournaments under the auspices of the association in singles. Rublev’s best result at Wimbledon was reaching the fourth round in 2021.

Max Purcell is also 25 years old. He occupies the 64th line of the world ranking. The athlete did not win the ATP tournaments. At the 2023 French Open, Purcell reached the second round, his best result at a Grand Slam tournament.
