All questions regarding the timing of the stay of the icon “Trinity” in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior should be directed to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. This statement was made on Friday, June 16, by the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov.

The official representative of the Kremlin was asked to comment on the statement of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) that the icon will remain in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior until July 18, but Peskov refused.

The presidential press secretary recalled that “all decisions were made, decisions were made on restoration work,” however, “the timing and so on – all the experts are discussing, so this is no longer our question.”

The ROC previously recalled that the icon is subject to gratuitous transfer to the Russian Orthodox Church in accordance with the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Now the Ministry of Culture is preparing relevant documents for registration of transfer.

At the same time, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, Mikhail Shvydkoy, expressed the opinion that after the return of the icon “Trinity” by Andrei Rublev from the Cathedral of Christ the Savior it should be conserved – in the shortest possible time to make a high-tech case for it, which will maintain the required temperature and humidity conditions.
