The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has issued a statement according to which all declared stockpiles of chemical weapons in the world have been destroyed.

This announcement follows reports from the United States, which was the last state party to the Chemical Weapons Convention not to get rid of chemical weapons despite plans to do so. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced the elimination of all chemical weapons in the country.

McConnell represents the state of Kentucky, where the destruction of chemical weapons takes place at the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) special facility. The report says that McConnell “praised” the enterprise for its work on the elimination of the last batch of chemical weapons in the country, and this event itself is called a “epoch-making” achievement. It is noted that local and federal authorities have been working together for about 30 years to achieve this goal.
