More than 200 teams registered for the Ekiden race in St. Petersburg


The Ekiden race started in the center of St. Petersburg. More than 200 teams from all over Russia have registered for the relay, the press service of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports reported.

This competition is held in Russia for the first time. The start of the team relay for the marathon distance was given on St. Isaac’s Square. The race route will run in the very heart of St. Petersburg next to famous architectural and historical monuments. Athletes will run across the Palace and Blagoveshchensky bridges, Trezzini Square, English and Admiralteyskaya embankments.

“Ekiden” is a marathon for six people according to the Japanese system. The offset is held among men, women and mixed teams. Running clubs from all over the country, as well as representatives of legislative and executive authorities, municipalities, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, universities, enterprises and organizations came to the race in St. Petersburg. In total, more than 200 teams registered for the competition.
