In the second quarter, India entered the top five countries in terms of iPhone sales. This is reported by the TV channel CNBC with reference to research company data Counterpoint Research. India accounted for 4% of all global iPhone sales, it displaced Germany from fifth place and is now behind the UK, Japan, China and the United States (first place).

Sales of smartphones from Apple in India in the second quarter increased by 50% compared to the same period last year. As a result, iPhone’s share of the Indian smartphone market rose to 5.1% in the second quarter from 3.4% a year earlier. The rise of the iPhone in India, and transfer parts of the production of these smartphones from China to India prompted Apple to open its first physical stores in that country in April, in New Delhi and Mumbai.

Analysts from Counterpoint Research note that in the second quarter worldwide sales of smartphones grew only in the premium segment (wholesale prices from $600), which includes the iPhone. India has become part of this premium smartphone market thanks to the growth in sales of Apple products.
