Hublot surprises again – Kommersant

At Hublot’s booth at Watches & Wonders 2023, I got my hands on the Big Bang Integrated Tourbillon Automatic Full Texalium-Carbon watch, among other novelties from the brand. And this, I tell you, is a revelation!

Usually, very heavy watches make an indelible impression from the fitting: for example, made of platinum with a platinum bracelet, weighing about 250 g. The opposite story is with very light, almost weightless watches. At first they seem frivolous, “plastic”, but interest immediately turns on: how did the manufacturer manage to lighten the design? What high-tech materials did he use?

In this case, we are talking about a combination of carbon fiber (carbon fiber) and Texalium fiberglass with the finest aluminum coating of high purity (99.99%). Carbon provides strength and lightness, and epoxy impregnated (same as carbon) fiberglass – resistance to impact and scratches. The hardest part of the development process was the mating of these materials, as each of the components behaves differently during cutting, machining and bevelling.

As a result, a white and black case with a diameter of 43 mm and a thickness of 14.15 mm – it is a pity that it was not possible to give its surface a “houndstooth” fabric pattern natural for this combination of colors – weighs (with a mechanism!) 42 g, and made from the same materials, a bracelet with a folding “butterfly” clasp made of blackened titanium – another 26 g. Total – 68 g. They fit an automatic in-house caliber with a 1-minute tourbillon (at 6 o’clock) and a mini winding rotor (at ” 12 hours”), providing a 72-hour power reserve. The view of the movement from the inside through the sapphire caseback window will give any chrono-fan a special pleasure.

The Big Bang Integrated Tourbillon Automatic Full Texalium-Carbon will be produced in a limited edition of 50 pieces, priced at 120,000 Swiss francs, but I swear that the feeling of incredible lightness on the wrist is worth the money.
