Maya Plisetskaya spoke the language of dance all her life, understandable in every corner of the planet. But the story about her fate is translated into a more substantive, but no less beautiful language. At the exhibition “Maya Plisetskaya. The Arena of Life”, which the Bakhrushinsky Theater Museum will bring to Luxembourg on June 10, photos from the stage and from rehearsals, from film work and from personal life, posters and costume sketches of the Russian ballet star will speak about the world-famous ballerina.

It’s amazing how inseparable the life and work of Plisetskaya – the prima of the Bolshoi left all of herself on stage. The ballerina lived by performing in front of the auditorium, rehearsing in choreographic classes – spaces that became the “arena” of fighting with herself and circumstances, striving to leave the corps de ballet for prima to perform the brilliant “Bolero”, the iconic “dying swan”. Even after leaving the Bolshoi, Maya Plisetskaya did not leave the stage. She continued to dance, expanding the spaces of the “arena”, the possibilities of her creative path – she first performed “Ave Maya” abroad at the age of 70.

Plisetskaya said: “The purpose of my life has always been dance. And this goal was achieved – I danced. The exhibition tells about the achievement of the goal, about the unwillingness to stop halfway, about life in the space of art, not only on stage, but also behind the scenes. With husband Rodion Shchedrin, friends and colleagues.

The exhibition became part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Moscow Academy of Choreography, of which Maya Mikhailovna was a graduate. The holiday goes beyond the borders of Russia, as well as the worldwide fame of graduates of the academy and Russian ballet. To watch Russian ballet, it is not necessary to know the language – just like learning something about the artists.

“The incomprehensible talent of Maya Plisetskaya is amazing – she was far ahead of her time. Enthusiastic spectators and critics around the world called her the best Odette, Raymonda, Kitri, Aurora… There are no geographical boundaries for the truly great, significant – a genius is always free in his work. Like many other things in art, the language of ballet does not require translation, and the energy and meaning of the dance is clear to everyone without words,” commented Kristina Trubinova, General Director of the Bakhrushin Museum.

The worldwide fame of those who speak the language of art has long since broken down the barriers: for example, the previously organized exhibition about Galina Ulanova was shown in Paris, Bulgaria and Sofia, about the choreographer Yury Grigorovich in Paris, and about Konstantin Stanislavsky in Serbia. The story about the fate of Maya Plisetskaya is now presented in detail to the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Luxembourg. The prima of the Bolshoi again gathered a whole hall – if not a visual one, but an exhibition one – of connoisseurs of Russian ballet.
