Putin signed the law on criminal liability for collectors for threats

The President of Russia signed a law establishing criminal liability of up to 10 years in prison for debt collectors who threaten debtors with violence, the document was published on the Internet portal of legal information.

According to the explanatory note, for violations of the law, collectors are subject to the following penalties:

– A fine in the amount of 300-500 thousand rubles or in the amount of the income of the convict for a period of 1 to 3 years.

– Forced labor for up to 5 years.

– Imprisonment for up to 5 years, coupled with professional restrictions after serving the term.

Penalties apply for the following:

– Return of overdue debts to individuals with the threat of violence.

– Destruction or damage to property with the threat or dissemination of deliberately false information that discredits the honor and dignity of the victim or his relatives.

If a violation of the law is committed by a group of persons by prior agreement with the use of violence not dangerous to health, with the destruction or damage of property on a large scale, the convicts face imprisonment for a term of 3 to 7 years and a fine in the amount of 500 thousand to one million rubles or in the amount of income over a period of 2 to 4 years.

If the applied violence is qualified as dangerous to life or health, or in case of damage to property on an especially large scale, the punishment will be from 5 to 10 years in prison and a fine from one million to 5 million rubles.
